The exhibition initiated by the Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal is the first major retrospective of the work of Victor Bourgeau, from his status as a woodworking craftsman to that of the most prominent architect with the archbishopric in 19th-century Montreal. Highlighting the architect’s work emphasized how his talents and the objectives of Monsignor Bourget are linked to the design of unprecedented structures in Montreal.
For this collaboration with the Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, Diane Bernier Design (DBD) designed furniture reflecting Bourgeau’s past as a woodworker. She designed the scenography of the two protagonists’ journeys in a parallel deployment culminating in the presentation of plans and elevations of major architectural achievements using horizontal and vertical plans allowing the public to appreciate the training Bourgeau acquired in Rome thanks to Monsignor Bourget and its applications through the realization of original plans of religious buildings.
