Diane Bernier Design (DBD) has enjoyed a long love affair with Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) through the design of numerous exhibitions. From this collaboration, events in both the regional archive centres as well as at the Grande Bibliothèque and the Centre d’archives de Montréal resulted, including Riopelle - Séries graphiques presented in the latter’s Gilles-Hocquart Hall. This exhibition brought together over a hundred archives and artefacts, tracing the artist’s career from the particular perspective of graphic art.
To accentuate the focus placed on printmaking and the paper medium by curator André Hénault, which allowed audiences to see different facets of Riopelle’s work, DBD opted for translucent horizontal and vertical planes on which the graphic elements were printed on wood. These highlighted the serial nature of the selection of works by showing how the artist often worked to divert his own codes in a playful mode.
