MoCo L’étoffe d’une ville takes visitors on a journey through time and space, exploring the influence of the Montreal Cotton Factory on the people who worked there and on Valleyfield, Canada’s first company town. In this exhibition, visitors travel through the factory, following the transformation of cotton from the entry of the raw material, in the form of a bale, to its exit as textiles, while moving through the 20th century. The tour is punctuated by islands presenting the major trade union movements that animated the city and the province.
Diane Bernier Design (DBD) was commissioned to integrate the sound effects and highlight the archives and artifacts in a scenography that brings the MoCo and its manufacturing processes to life, and captures what life was like for the workers.
