When the Stewart Museum reopened after significant renovations, Diane Bernier Design (DBD), in collaboration with museographer Bruno Donzet and the Stewart Museum’s conservation team, took on the challenge of creating a scenography that would encourage the discovery of a collection rich in five centuries of history, while respecting the technical constraints imposed by the preservation of 500 archives and artifacts.
As designer and project manager, DBD designed the presentation elements for the nine sections of this chronological exhibition. With the aim of constantly renewing the public’s experience throughout the tour: the colours, lighting and spatial layout helped to highlight the documents and objects and created a specific identity for the associated eras. The linearity effect of the rooms in the old military fort was mitigated by the creation of distinct zones with varied layouts, punctuated by enlargements of old engravings.
